Calling all creatives! Poetry, prose, essay, and visual art submissions are now open!

Hi there! I’m Payton Hayes. Welcome to my website! I am a Creative Writing alum from The University of Central Oklahoma and as a recipient of the 2024-25 Research, Creative, & Scholarly Activities (RSCA) Grant, I am kindly requesting thematic poetry, prose, essay, and visual art submissions for my literary project, “Ancient Mythology, Modern Identity!”

This project will culminate in an e-book and print journal that blends Greek mythology with contemporary themes in an effort to revitalize ancient stories that have shaped Western literature. The works featured in this project will draw connections between past and present and will challenge identities influenced by various translations in Greek mythology.

  • This project was actually the creative offspring of another project I presented during my study at the University of Central Oklahoma. During the Spring 2024 semester, I presented my work at the College of Liberal Arts 2024 Symposium, "Human Constellations." My presentation consisted of both academic and creative elements that demonstrated how both ancient and modern mythology shapes our individual and collective identities. That presentation was essentially the bite-sized version of the work I am hoping to accomplish with this literary journal. I don't have a recording of the full presentation, but you can view the poetry animations on my YouTube channel here.

This project is made possible by The University of Central Oklahoma, The Office of High Impact Practices, and the kind contributors who have made generous donations to the RSCA Grant Fund.
